Mr. Chidananda Poojary
is a very soft spoken person and an ardent
performer and follower of "Yakshagana".
Mr. Chidanada Poojary hails from Vamanjoor
in Mangalore. Born into a family of two sisters,
Chidananda is the last and only son of Mr.
Madhav Poojary and Mrs. Devaki M. Poojary.
As a youngster , Chidananda was very active
in stage performance as part of the local
"Club" celebrations. He had special
attraction to 'Yakshagana" and never
missed a chance to watch it whenever an opportunity
came across. Mr. Chidanada did not have any
formal training in Yakshagana. He was a self
learner and learnt the art all by himself
by watching others perform. Later he performed
for his local club at Vamanjoor.
 He
came to Dubai in search of livelihood in the
year 1988 and joined "Mohammed Al Qaizi
Shipbuilding Co. at Jadaf and continues to
work for them to date. In his spare time he
renders his services to all the voluntary
organizations such as "Tulu Koota",
"Karnataka Sangha", "Billawas
Dubai" to name a few. His love for "Yakshagana"
prompted him to start a group called "Yaksha
Mitraru" headquartered at his home in
Jadaf.
Since inception,
"Yaksha Mitraru" has gained popularity
among "Yakshagana" lovers of Dubai.
"It's hard work for every one involved"
says Mr. Chidanand. "It involves lot
of planning to arrangea show. Rehearsal for
the show begins at least 3 months in advance".
The dress for all the actors and other accessories
are all stitched at his home. His wife Mrs.
Lavanya Chidanad Poojary is equally supportive
of his work. Mr. Chidanand is equally appreciative
of his team members. His team members are
all equally dedicated. Collecting and maintaining
a complete set of accessories required for
staging Yakshaghana shows is by no means an
easy task (in Dubai or anywhere) and Mr. Chidanand
has achieved that.
Some
of the achievements of Mr. Chidananda Poojary"
are as follows.
a) Started "Yaksha
Mitraru" in 2003 by bringing all art
lovers under one umbrella.
b) Staged the first ever full fledged Yakshagana
show "Kateel Kshetra Mahatme" by
them at Al Nasr Leisure land in 2004 and rest
is history as they say.
c) Successfully Staged "Shambhavi Vilasa"
("Sampoorna Devi Mahatme)" an 8
hours Yakshagana act in 2005 at Al Nasr Leisure
land by inviting Shri Purushotam Poonja as
Bhaghavat & Shri P.V. Paramesh for Chende
(drum).This was appreciated by every one who
attended the show.
In
appreciation of his achievements , Billawas
Dubai honored him with a memento in their
6th Annual gathering held at Intercontinental
Hotel Dubai on 25th November 2005.
Mr. Chidananda is
a very quite and soft spoken person by nature
and hence he remains at the backstage in all
the sucessful shows conducted by him. Mr.
Chidananda is married to Mrs. Lavanya and
the couple is blessed with 2 sons Chirayu
and Chirag. We at "Billawas Dubai"
are proud of this Billawa son and we wish
him good luck.
