Around 228
deserving students pursuing Medical, Nursing, Engineering
and other professional courses, received educational
scholarships under the benevolent patronage of the
Billawas Dubai and Northern Emirates (BDNE) on August
16th, 2009.
Around 700 people attended this competently organized
function at the magnificent “Vishwanatha Kalyana
Mantapa”, Shree Kshethra Kudroli, Mangalore.
The students started arriving around 9 AM to register
their names with Guru Charitable Trust volunteers
in an orderly manner .
All the guests , students and their parents were
served sumptuous breakfast .
The program started with a beautiful welcome dance
by Bindiya , Namritha, Jyothsna, Vishal & Chethan.
The Chief Guests of the occasion were Shree Vikyathananda
Swamiji Bolyottu Karkala, Shri Jaya C Suvarna, President
Rashtriya Billawawara Maha Mandala, Shri Ganesh
Amin Sankamar, Professor & Writer, Shri H.S.
Sairam, President Shri Kokarnanatha Kshethra Kudroli,
Shri V.R. Kotian , President Bharath Coop Bank Ltd.

Shri Umesh Kuckian (Immediate Past President), Shri
Satish Poojary (Immediate Past Gen. Secretary) , Shri
Purushotham Salian (Sports Secretary), Shri Vasanth
Thumbe (Secretary Public Relations) , Shri S.D. Amin
(Committee Member) graced the occasion with their
esteemed presence.
After the recitation of prayer from Vijay S. Kuckian
, the guests were introduced to the audience and were
honored with flowers.
Shri
Udaya kumar Kateel in his welcome speech while welcoming
the audience , explained the importance of education
. He also appreciated the cooperation extended by
Shri Guru Narayan Charitable Trust.
The program was inaugurated by Shri Vikyathananda
Swamiji by lighting the traditional lamp.
Shri Vikyathananda Swamiji in his ashirwachana praised
Billawas Dubai & NE members for not forgetting
their brethrens back home. Citing an example of
how three students belonging to different religion
gave same answer to a question put to them on the
issue of whose message is best suited for the future
generation of this world. He said that the children
had said it is the message given by Shri Narayana
Guru. He said that Guru Narayana has shown us the
right path and we should follow that.
He lauded the contribution of Billawas Dubai and
NE towards uplifting the underprivileged and the
needy people in the community.
Shri Jaya C. Suvarna in his speech said that our
community can not progress unless everyone adheres
to Shri Guru Narayana Swamy’s teachings. Praising
Billawas Dubai’s contribution to the society
he said “Billawas Dubai is doing a great job
by helping poor students through education scholarship
so that they become good citizens.” “Children
should keep this in their mind and study well and
progress in life.” He said.
Shri Jitendra Suvarna in his speech stressed the
importance of education and praised members of Guru
charitable trust for their selfless service to the
society.
The President of Billawas Dubai & NE, Mr. Mohan
Attavar and his wife Dr. Sachitha Attavar were felicitated
on behalf of Billawas Dubai & NE by Shri Guru
Charitable trust.
Speaking on the occasion Shri Mohan Attavar explained
how Billawas Dubai has grown since past 12 years
from a modest beginning to largest Billawa organization
outside India. He said that Billawas Dubai could
give education help to such a large no of students
due to generous contribution from each and every
member. He expressed his gratitude to members of
Guru Charitable trust for their effort in identifying
the right students by visiting their house.
Mr. Jayanand M one of the trustees of Shri Guru
Charitable Trust explained about the objectives
of the Trust and he also shared his experience as
to how the families of Billawa community are living
in the condition of extreme poverty in the villages.
By making professional education possible to these
students, the Billawas Dubai & NE have paved
the way to empower the next generation of Billawas,
for it is only through education that a community
can achieve progress and development.
During the function Billawas Dubai & NE distributed
over Rs. 7 lacs towards education scholarship and
Medical Aid . Each and every student was invited
to the dais and presented with scholarship cheques
ranging from Rs 1500 to 20,000 was handed over to
them by chief guest and members of Billawas Dubai
committee.
Rs. 30,000 cheque was presented to Shri Narayana
Guru High school padubelle towards mid-day meal
program.
Rs 65,000/- (Sixty thousand) was donated to poor
people towards medical aid to 5 poor patients. The
cheques were handed over by Shri Vikyathananda Swamiji
to them.

Dubai proposed vote of thanks and thereafter a sumptuous
lunch was served to everyone.
