Dubai :Dhow Ball Room at Dhow Palace Hotel , Dubai came alive as Billwas Dubai & Northern Emirates Celebrated their 9th Annual Family Get-together “Pingara – 2006” on 27th October 2006. Entire Ball Room had a festive look with over 1000 guests participating in this memorable event. Our Lady members welcomed each and every guest with flowers and rose water. The entrance was nicely decorated with various types of flower which is closely associated with Tulu culture. A beautiful replica of Koti, Chennaya Garadi at the main entrance was appreciated by one and all when they entered the hall. Shri Jaya Suvarna, Chairman of The Bharat Co-operative Bank Ltd., Mumbai and a leading and prominent leader of Billawa Community, was the chief guest and Shri Bannanje Babu Amin, well-known writer of many historical books including Koti Chennaya in both Tulu and Kannada languages, managing trustee of Brahma Baidarkala Cultural Association, member of Sahitya Academy and ex-editor of monthly magazine 'Akshaya', was the guest of honor. Program started with Prayer sung by our members followed by Welcome dance. Traditional lamp was lit by Mr & Mrs. Jaya Suvarna, Shri Bannanje Babu Amin, Shodhan Prasad and Jitendra Suvarna. Mr. K.A.Mathew, President of Indian Association Sharjah was a special invitee to the function. In his brief speech to our audience, he apprecaited Billawas Dubai & Northern Emirates for the excellent service being rendered to the community and also for the wonderful function and assured us of full co-operation from IAS. Shri Bannanje Babu Amin was felicitated by Shri Jaya Suvarna on behalf of Billawas Dubai & NE. Shri Bannanje Babu Amin thanked Billawas Dubai for the warm welcome given to him and for giving him an opportunity to meet and address Billawas in Dubai. In his speech he re-itereated the point that “Toddy Tapping” (Murthe) is not the primary job (“Kula Kasubu”) of Billawas as widely known. According to him Billawas were basically farmers and brave soldiers. He also said that Billawas were also known as Baida indicating a profession of treating sick persons . One of our senior member Shri S.D. Amin was also felicitated by Shri Jaya Suvarna. Mr. Harsha Poojary , a well known DJ from Radio 4 FM was presented with “Achievement Award” . Excellent service award was presented to Mr. Vittal Poojary by Shri Bannanje Babu Amin for his dedicated service to the community. Mr. Shankar Poojary, one of the founder member of Billawa Balaga Dubai in 1997 , was honoured by Mr. Jaya Suvarna. Master Suhan Attavar, Kum. Pooja Kuckian, Mr. Kishore Kotian & Kum. Sneha Poojary were awarded with sports person of the year award in their respective category. Mr. Shrinivas and Mr. Radhakrishna were presented with shawl for their dedicated service in the temple for the past 25 years by Mr. Anup Kumar The first ever Souvenir of Billawas Dubai & NE “Suvarna Kedage” was released by Mr. Jaya Suvarna in the presence of Mr. Umesh Kuckian, Mr. Manohar Tonse , Shri Bannanje Babu Amin and Satish Poojary amidst thunderous applause from the crowd. Fashion show was presented by the Billawa couples- Umesh Kuckian & Prasanna Kuckian (Punjab), Satish Poojary Suvarna Poojary (Kashmir), Jayanand Kunder & Indrakshi Kunder( Tamilnad), Purushotham Salian & Yogitha Salian (Gujrat ), Vaman Poojary & Chandrika Poojary (Maharastra), Krishna Poojary & Shyamala (Bengal ), Jeevan Kuckian & Rajani Kuckian (Goa), Anand Bailor & Parija Bailoor(Karnataka), Vasant Tumbe & Sowmyalatha Tumbe (Rajastan), Sudhakar Poojar & Asha Poojary (Kerala) and Mrs. Smitha Bendoor as Bharat Mata reflecting the tradition with costume stole the show. This show was well presented by Kum. Pooja Kuckian and Master Prajwal Praveen Kumar. It was indeed a star attraction. Many Comedy skits were presented by Chidanand & his team tickled non-stop laughter in the hall. Entire function which lasted for almost 10 hours included many dance programmes by children from both Billawas Dubai & Billawa Balaga Abudhabi. The entire program was compered by Ramanda Belapu and Yogita Salian. Mr. Jaganath Bellare ,Mr. Chidanand Poojary and our entertainment team have done a good job in putting up a great show Mr. Sujay Bendoor, our media coordinator was busy clicking beautiful shots The function was concluded after vote of thanks by Mr. Satish Poojary immediately after the rafle draw.
